Installing a Ceiling Fan
1. You need a fan speed control switch to control a ceiling fan. 2. If the fan does not come with a light, you can purchase a light kit and install both at the same time. 3. Never attach a fan to a plain ceiling box. The fan's weight will pull it out of the ceiling.
#1 Prepare the area Turn off power to existing light fixture Remove light fixture Remove ceiling box Thread existing wiring into new ceiling box Screw new metal box to ceiling joist

#2 Install support brace between joists Place brace through the existing hole in ceiling Rest feet of brace on top side of ceiling Turn support bar to tighten against joists above ceiling Attach the u-bolt connector to brace bar Thread existing wiring into new ceiling box Screw new ceiling box in place

#3 Assemble ceiling fan Follow manufacturer's instructions for assembly

#4 Install ceiling fan Mount fan anchor bracket to ceiling box Attach fan to bracket Connect power and ground wires to fan and secure with wire nuts and tape Screw decorative cover to box
#5 Finishing touches Replace light switch with a fan control switch Turn on power Test fan and light by trying all speeds and light
