Materials you will need:

#1 Prepare opening
|
|
- Determine width of door
- Make opening 2" wider than door and 2" taller than door
- If cutting opening through drywall, use utility knife or wall board saw
- If cutting opening through plaster and lath, use a reciprocating saw
- If header is needed, make opening large enough to install
- Install studs on each side of opening between drywall or lath
- Use level and square to check for a plumb opening

#2 Install door
|
|
- Place door unit into opening centering on 2" x 4"s
- Check plumb and shim in several spots on each side and top (attach two shims with finishing nails)
- Screw the door frame into the opening

#3 Finishing touches
|
|
- Install interior lockset
- Add painted or stained mouldings
- Fill nail holes

- Paint brush
- Stain wood putty
