1. This is a good time to install a new floor and/or upgrade to decorative moulding.
2. Attach a ledger board of furring strips at the bottom of wall cabinet height to make it easier to hold cabinets in position.
3. Use a small drill bit with a counter sink for all screw holes.
4. Put a chalk line on the wall and level and shim each cabinet as you go.

#1 Measure kitchen area
|
- Include moulding in measurements
- Note any windows and doors in cabinet run
- Note centerline of appliances and their measurements
- Write out dimensions on graph paper

- Tape measure

#2 Design kitchen layout
|

- Select the cabinet sizes, style and finish

#3 Prepare kitchen for new cabinets
|
- Relocate any electrical or plumbing as needed
- Repair any damaged walls
|
|
- Wood patch or spackling compound
- Putty knife
- Sandpaper
|
|
#4 Hang wall cabinets
|
- Measure and mark walls with exact location of all cabinets
- Determine height of wall cabinets and hang starting at corner
- Make sure each cabinet is level and square
- Screw cabinets into studs through cabinet backing
- Clamp adjoining cabinet and screw cabinets together through front frame
- Repeat for each cabinet as you work your way from the corner

#5 Install base cabinets
|
- Order of installation: sink base, corner cabinets, remaining cabinets
- Determine highest floor point and shim base cabinets to that height
- Screw base cabinets to wall studs
- Install new baseboard moulding
