1. Wiring is completely safe when power is shut off correctly.
2. Unhook only the two wires that go directly to the fixture.
3. Be sure to connect the new fixture to the same wires as the old fixture.
4. Choose light bulbs that meet fixture requirements.

Materials you will need:

1. Turn off power
|
- Turn on old light fixture
- Shut off circuit at panel box
- Light should now be off
- Put a warning label on circuit
|
|
- Flashlight
- Pencil and paper
|
|
2. Remove old fixture
|
- Unscrew mounting nuts
- Pull fixture away carefully and support weight
- Test wires to make sure power is off
- Remove wire nuts and separate fixture wires from circuit
|

- Pliers
- Coat hanger
- Circuit or wire tester
- Screwdriver
- Ladder
|

3. Wire new fixture
|
- Install decorative rosette to hide any damage or add a decorator touch
- Make sure electrical box is secure enough to hold weight of new fixture
- Twist one circuit wire together with one fixture wire
- Screw on wire nut
- Repeat for other fixture wire
- Wrap electrical tape to cover wire nut and 1" of wires

- Linesman pliers
- Electrical tape
- Wire strippers
- Trim rosette

4. Test new fixture
|
- Turn power back on to test
- If lighted, circuit is OK
- If not, turn power back off
- Recheck wiring

5. Mount new fixture
|
- Carefully push wires back into box
- Mount fixture loosely
- Make sure wires are not pinched
|
