Repairing a Noisy Toilet 
1. Put food coloring in tank to help trace your leak. 2. Check your local codes to find out if an anti-siphon flush valve is required. 3. Do toilet repairs when stores are open, in case you need specialty items.
#1 Identify problem If water runs into tank after flushing, replace flapper valve If water runs into bowl constantly, replace flush valve assembly
#2 Prepare tank Turn off water to toilet Take cover off tank Flush toilet to empty water from tank Soak up excess water with sponge
- Adjustable wrench
- Channel joint pliers
- Screwdriver
- Wet sand paper
#3 Remove old flush valve Disconnect supply line from flush valve Remove nuts holding valve to tank bottom Pull out old valve assembly Clean opening in tank bottom
- Replacement anti-siphon flush valve
- Manufacturer instructions
- Needle nose pliers
#4 Install new flush valve Assemble new valve per manufacturer's instructions Set valve into hole and secure Connect refill tube to overflow Hook up supply line under toilet tank
- Replacement flapper valve
- Utility knife
- Scissors
#5 Install flapper Unhook arm or chain from old flapper Unhook old flapper Cut new flapper to match old Hook up new flapper and attach arm or chain
- Toilet bowl cleaner
- Drop-in deodorizer
#6 Set water level and test Turn water on Monitor water level in tank Adjust valve to water line Flush and check for leaks
